Positive Behavior Intervention Supports
Van Buren is a Positive Behavior Interventions System (PBIS) school.
PBIS is a set of strategies and systems that enables our school to: 1. Create a culture of positive behaviors.
2. Reduce behavior disruptions.
3. Create appropriate environments to educate all students.
This approach fosters successful social behavior and encourages school staff, students, families, and community members to work together to create a safe social culture with consistent expectations.
During the first week of school all students and staff were taught six building-wide procedures to ensure common expectations for respect, responsibility, and trustworthiness.
The six building areas for these procedures are: hallway, cafeteria, playground, restroom, bus, entering and exiting.
